The daffodils have emerged in 
the front yard.  Orchards are ahead on the pruning schedules, concerned 
that if this warm weather trend continues, the trees will set buds 
months early.  Today the cover crops in the fallow fields turned a 
brilliant green.  This unseasonably warm weather makes tending the

Winter struck with a vengeance over the weekend!  With the ice storm that hit on Friday night, no one could make it to the farm on Saturday morning. Winter finally found us - for a few days, anyway.  Several days of the ‘cover/uncover routine’ reminded us why we are so thrilled to have those engineering classes from Ohio U. working on designs for a more automated system.  Somehow, the milder winter temperatures make it seem even colder when the thermometer finally does drop.

           Another week has flown by.  We are taking advantage of all of the sunshine. This week started in a beautiful way, but around noon the weather alarms began to sound, alerting us to bad weather for our neighbors. And then, our skies clouded too, as a furious storm overtook again. Monday night we all saw some of the most intense lightning ever in our lives.   As is pretty typical for spring, I’m sure I just wrote the last newsletter yesterday – at least that’s how it seems! The Starts House is full of your food for the summer, and we’ll be adding more there as the flats germinate and can be moved to the cooler environment.   There are advantages to living between the township garage and the main road. The biggest one is that the road to the farm is the 1st one plowed and treated after a snowfall. Today was no exception. Yesterday, we kept the driveways cleared of snow as best we could, so that the truck could get to the road that was so nicely plowed and treated.
